How does a bail bond work?

Once an arrest has been made the county has scheduled bonds set in place for each charge except those of serious crimes. If not bonded out the arrestee would appear in front of the judge within 24 hours. A bond may be reduced, increased, or set at no bond by the judge. Once the bonds have been set the arrestee is able to bond out. If the bonds are set too high that one cannot afford to pay the whole bond then that is where a bondsman might be needed. We are here to reduce the burden of cost and to make sure that the arrestee appears in court.

How much does a bail bond cost?

By state law the amount that bail bond companies are required to charged is 10% or a minimum of $100 per charge. Now, how we get to that point that is all determined by the circumstances related around the arrestee. 1st Exit Bail Bonds will work flexible payment plans for everyone.

What are my responsibilities as an indemnitor/signer?

As a indemnitor your responsibility is to assure that the defendant appears in court. If the defendant fails to appear in court you have two options.

  • First if you know where the defendant is located your obligated to let the bondsman know, so we can fulfill our obligation that is due to the court.
  • Second if there is no way of knowing where the defendant is located then the indemnitor is obligated to pay the entire amount of the bond.

What is collateral?

Collateral is something of value that the arrestee or indemnitor holds as security to protect the bail bond company of any loss. It is intend to help assure the return of the defendant back to court when needed otherwise collateral would be lost.

How long does it take for someone to be released from jail?

Each county varies on the time to release a defendant. The larger the city the longer it takes. Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties can take several hours to be release. Once the bonds have been posted, it is out of the bondsman hands at that point.
